  <aya id="1" text="One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall" />
  <aya id="2" text="The unbelievers — there is none to avert it —" />
  <aya id="3" text="From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent." />
  <aya id="4" text="To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years." />
  <aya id="5" text="Therefore endure with a goodly patience." />
  <aya id="6" text="Surely they think it to be far off," />
  <aya id="7" text="And We see it nigh." />
  <aya id="8" text="On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper," />
  <aya id="9" text="And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool;" />
  <aya id="10" text="And friend shall not ask of friend," />
  <aya id="11" text="(Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children," />
  <aya id="12" text="And his wife and his brother," />
  <aya id="13" text="And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter," />
  <aya id="14" text="And all those that are in the earth, (wishing) then (that) this might deliver him." />
  <aya id="15" text="By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire," />
  <aya id="16" text="Dragging by the head," />
  <aya id="17" text="It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth)," />
  <aya id="18" text="And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up." />
  <aya id="19" text="Surely man is created of a hasty temperament;" />
  <aya id="20" text="Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him" />
  <aya id="21" text="And niggardly when good befalls him" />
  <aya id="22" text="Except those who pray," />
  <aya id="23" text="Those who are constant at their prayer," />
  <aya id="24" text="And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion." />
  <aya id="25" text="For him who begs and for him who is denied (good)" />
  <aya id="26" text="And those who accept the truth of the judgment day," />
  <aya id="27" text="And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord —" />
  <aya id="28" text="Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of —" />
  <aya id="29" text="And those who guard their private parts," />
  <aya id="30" text="Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess — for these surely are not to be blamed," />
  <aya id="31" text="But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits —" />
  <aya id="32" text="And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant," />
  <aya id="33" text="And those who are upright in their testimonies," />
  <aya id="34" text="And those who keep a guard on their prayer," />
  <aya id="35" text="Those shall be in gardens, honored." />
  <aya id="36" text="But what is the matter with those who disbelieve that they hasten on around you," />
  <aya id="37" text="On the right hand and on the left, in sundry parties?" />
  <aya id="38" text="Does every man of them desire that he should be made to enter the garden of bliss?" />
  <aya id="39" text="By no means! Surely We have created them of what they know." />
  <aya id="40" text="But nay! I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests that We are certainly able" />
  <aya id="41" text="To bring instead (others) better than them, and We shall not be overcome." />
  <aya id="42" text="Therefore leave them alone to go on with the false discourses and to sport until they come face to face with that day of theirs with which they are threatened;" />
  <aya id="43" text="The day on which they shall come forth from their graves in haste, as if they were hastening on to a goal," />
  <aya id="44" text="Their eyes cast down; disgrace shall overtake them; that is the day which they were threatened with." />
